Focus of practice
I have been working in the NHS as a speech and language therapist for over thirty years, including managing a multi-disciplinary paediatric service and also developing my specialist knowledge and experience in complex communication problems in adults particularly stammering (stuttering). I currently work in the adult service as a specialist therapist providing individual therapy to clients who may be experiencing anxiety, depression and social isolation in addition to their communication difficulty.
I work alongside clients to identify the issues that are troubling them and to understand their view of the world. Therapy needs to be creative and imaginative in exploring the choices that they face and in developing a different perspective on the problem. I can support them to experiment with novel ways of going about their daily lives whilst upholding their values, beliefs and identity.
PCP philosophy is embedded in all that I do and continues to inspire my clinical work, supervision and teaching. Following on from my qualification in Personal Construct Counselling and Psychotherapy and my roles on registration and management committees I have been actively engaged in promoting PCP training programmes to a wide range of professionals.
I deliver foundation level courses on PCP theory and practice to fellow professionals and provide on-going tutor groups and professional supervision.
